“Pants on the ground, Pants on the ground, lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground”
Those are the viral lyrics to a song that Larry Platt sung a couple of weeks ago on American Idol. The 62-year old African American was too old for the competition (28 is top age), but still was able to have his day in the spotlight when he sung his song on national television. Larry was not a stranger to going out on a limb. Larry was a supporter of Martin Luther King, Jr. back in the day.
I would suspect most of you have seen or heard these lyrics sung, by Larry or others. They are infectious, that is why they are described as viral. You have a difficult time not to think about them you want to not think about them, but you still do. The concept of something being “viral” in the marketing business is a very good thing. You want your slogan or jingle to stick in people’s heads. Think about all the little commercials you have remembered in your lifetime.
I think that it would be awesome to be able to come up with something that we, as a church, would like to “sing” as we scurry on our way through life. Something that may be of an interest to others. Something that will stick in other’s minds long after the conversation is over.
Using the tune to the “Pants on the Ground” song, I came up with words that may stick in your mind for a while to remind you about your faith...
Jesus saved me, Jesus saved me, I can only go to heaven b’cause Jesus saved me.
